We'd expected to travel for a year. A medical diagnosis changed the direction of the trip and we're taking in one day at a time, with up to two months near UCLA's incredible breast cancer center.

Joy October 11
Good morning,
I am happy to say we will be home the end of next week.
Next week I am at UCLA for check up. I will have a mammogram to show there is no more cancer -- also have other tests run. I start on Tues. with the mamo and Dr Chang -- Thurs is obgyn for pap. I also have a time with the oncologist, i went off the med for estrogen blocker and feel great. She will want me to go on another one and i will try it out. send me good thoughts knowing i am very healthy. I feel that way.
I have been in Vegas for a week, lots of time with Lauren and Dean. Friends, eating and shopping. Weather is wonderful. I stopped in to see our renters here, their lease is up in March I asked what their plan was. They want to rent it for 3 years again, simply do not want to move.yea We are blessed to have them the house looked great, so clean. They lived through a lot of construction when pipes had to be replaced all through the house. They stayed in it to make sure the paint and clean up were perfect. They use it as tho they own it, wow. they were happy to know we rented in Morro Bay so we won't want to move back into "their" home. Are we blessed or what ?
Lorin and Dandy are coming this way after about a week travel they will be near Albuquerque today.
Meanwhile i am enjoying hotel living. Take an elevator to first floor and maybe choose one of the restaurants or get in the car (thank you Dean) and go. I am not a gambler, haven't put a dime towards gambler, rather spend my money shopping.
I am at the Suncoast which is in the neighborhood I know so well. Had dinner with a friend who is a Realtor. She said homes here are starting to sell. investors are snapping up homes for around 100,000. and fixing them up for rental or turning them.
Lorin and I were in Toledo, his family is wonderful and we were able to take my Mom to see the new grand-baby. There are 7 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Dandy had as much attention as the baby, everyone loves him.
Leaves were starting to turn, red and gold. We walked in a local park where trees look about 30 ft. and higher. All that water, green and lush.
The trip on the way to Toledo was fun, stayed three nights in Santa Fe. We could walk to bus stop and have a ride downtown to the square that reminded me of St. Marks. All the shops and in front of the walk were natives who were selling gemstone jewelry. We met very nice travelers. There is something mystical about that area, light is always soft and very friendly, it slowed us in walking around the downtown area. Staying in the moment. what a gift.
I as the reader of our gps (smart phone) while Lorin was driving i told him it was a right turn instead of left and we ended up in Dodge City Kansas. (the original "get out of dodge") Spent 2 nights there enjoying the history, boot hill and local fun.
Toledo is about2100 miles from CA so we are very please the motor home ran like a top. Since we bought a used rv there have been repairs and new tires and even built in a desk for Lorin, we toyed with the idea of getting a new sofa but that didn't happen.
I would love to hear from you and what is happening in your world.
Looking forward to coming home, i miss my friends and meetings and sister circles.
Blessings to you all, i love that you are in my life and i am in yours.

Oklahoma City, and it's pouring! Which is good for locals, because of the drought here abouts. Stayed last night at a place run by a teacher of 5th and 6th graders, science mainly. Global warming? Evolution? Hard to say what role humans play...he said; earth has been hot before. Evolution is a theory and as for carbon dating, well that's not a proven procedure....And so on.
Big cross winds all day held down the travel....Happy to arrive in Oklahoma City and plug in. And now the rain has arrived. Equipped Dandy with his fancy raincoat, but when he saw what the weather was actually doing he decided to stay on the couch. At some point he will have to rethink that decision....

The Toledo visit:We spent most of the time visiting children and grandchildren, the beautiful folks you see here, but we did have time to walk in Wildwood a wonderful 400-acre park that is a favorite of ours. The kids are great. Chase at 6 weeks is gaining weight and sprouting hair. His Mom Michelle is a nurse, and the mother of Josh, now in 9th grade, Kyle, now in 4th grade, and Allison (JV volleyball, varsity cheerleader, etc.)Philip (great grandchild) is four, and has a marvelous smile; he is loved. His Mom Julia is our oldest grand daughter and she's super responsible and in charge of a staff of 5. Her Mom Elissa is a graphic designer at a local newspaper, and creator of collages....Grandson Tony towers over us all, and unfortunately I accidentally deleted the pictures from the one night he was able to be with us. All in all, it was a fantastic visit!

Joy September 24, and September 25
Hi all,
This road trip has been a long while coming. We are in our RV and traveling slowly towards Toledo OH to see family---my 95 year young Mother and a new grandchild.
We left a week ago Friday - spent 3 nights in Santa Fe, loved it. The light there is magic. And because I misread my GPS we went northeast instead of southeast.
Stayed in a small town in New Mexico a couple of nights ago then on to Dodge City. Tonight is our second night in Dodge City KS, went to boot hill and the museum. Wonderful day, hot here 91 . As we travel east we have been watching weather- so far so good.
Leaving the Pacific then into the Desert and mountains, now on the prairie. This country is wonderful, big and friendly. We have loved the beauty and light as we travel. Every time change we lose an hour, on the way back we will gain. Good to finally be on the road, Dandy has been a great traveler.
9/25 Topeka KS today, the park is so well appointed we are going to stay two nights. Moving on Tues. To St. Louis on Tues.
WE are giving ourselves a vacation---well earned, just mozzing along.
Thanks for all your love and light,
Joy

Joy Sunday September 18
Hi all,
We left CA yesterday, said good by to the Pacific and started east. We needed to go through a lot of population to get on the 15 and traffic was heavy. Being in the motor home can be scary and then feel very safe. Just getting used to it. From Barstow to the 40 we watched the L A gamblers getting crazier as they sped past us and cut in and out of traffic. I guess they couldn't wait to loose money.
We paid $3.91 for gas at Costco in L A. Saw a lot of stations selling over $4. Yesterday the price on reg. here in Kingman AZ was $3.55 good lord.
It is very dry and hot here and my hair is hat, no make that helmet hair, straight as a stick.
Dandy is a great traveler and is such a sweet thing, a labadoodle fell in love with him today at the dog park, tried to hump him till Dandy said
enough. Strange both dogs were fixed males. A mystery.
OUr plans have changed, we are going to have a short day and wind up in Flagstaff. and then on to NM tomorrow.
Ohio is a long way to travel and since this is a "vacation" from all the activity we can "mozzie" at our own sped.
Lorin is posting photos and i will write when i can. love to all, joy

Joy August 15
Hi all,
Well July flew by. We stayed on my friends property in Morro Bay almost all month. She has a full Rv hook up and we were really blessed to be there.
Before we left Morro Bay for Chico and OR we found a sweet apt. for rent and it is ours at the end of the month. The location is Morro Bay and we are looking forward to being there. We can walk to the theater and shops and downtown which are all within 3-4 blocks. Perfect.
Both of us missed a home base and our “stuff” in storage is calling to us too.
With that in mind we each made a list of 10 items we would like to have in a home. Morro Bay was the first for us, having a patio and one story. Within a week we were committed to our new home.
Will be great to get stuff out of storage and into our home. I am sure there will be a ton of wonderful things to sell off since this place is about ½ the size of our last home. Downsizing is downsizing.
Our trip to Chico was interesting, we were able to spend a evening there with friends Duchess and Don on Fri. night.
We wanted to surprise Duchess who didn’t know we were coming in. Hubby Don and Lorin made all the plans. We were seated at a wonderful restaurant as planned and D&D came in 15 minutes later. I had on sun glasses and held my menu to my face. Lorin shared the menu with me.
As soon as Duchess walked in she spotted us – and started to get very emotional... in fact we both ended up crying and laughing in-between courses. So glad to reconnect with loved ones.
I was surprised how fast she spotted us... she had us pose for a photo showing what she saw when she came in—
Laughed a lot over this.
Getting ready on Sat. to drive to OR the rv gears froze. We are members of a roadside club, they had a tow truck to us in less than an hour. We were near a car rental, on Sat, in Chico with less than an hour before closing. Don gave me a ride to the rental and when I got back to the RV
the tow truck arrived at the same time. Timing
Our fear was the transmission needed replacing but no, it was a minor problem.
Meanwhile we spent two nights with Dandy in a motel near downtown Chico. Chico reminds us of the mid-west, green with lots of water, houses are mid-west in style. My mind kept flipping back and forth to Ohio.
Chico is a University town with a lot of energy.. We enjoyed walking to town an REstopped in a book store, talked with the owner who loves Chico. Nice
Lorin talked with the repair place and asked if we had a problem, there was a funky smell in the frig., repair mad said it smelled like cod fish so even tho we didn’t have cod – we threw all the food away :{ and washed the inside with bleach and baking soda and baking soda again. We put dishes of baking soda in the frig. All of the above helped get rid of the smell which we think came from shell fish juice dropping on the grills and shelves. Arg.
We finally made it to7 feathers rv park, Canyonville OR. A great place to park and have fun.
In fact it is tied in a poll with another one for first place in our country.
This park is very special. Other parks we have gone to have common rooms for showers – you get a curtain for privacy but really not enough room to do all you want to do... dry hair, shoes or garment changing etc. I found it easier to shower in the rv as tight as it is. This park has private rooms with sink, shower and toilet, I swear when one person walks out the crew cleans up after them befpre the the room is used again..
We and everyone else are parked on a large pad which is mostly level. Trees, grass and many flowers.
The park is quiet and clean - very happy employees . They should be happy, they are all on salary with pension plans and health ins. (Reminds me of a land far, far away). They are well trained friendly and will answer any questions .
There is a playground for kids, a indoor pool and hot tub with a rec. room.
Yesterday we went to the coastal village of Winchester, a working port. They are fishing for salmon, crabs and clams. ‘While there is quite a lot of fishing boats the small businesses were having a struggle.. So many out of business. This is a milling area and the lack of building in the country has taken its toll.
8-13
A hotel shuttle comes around every 15-20 minutes to take you there and then back to your pad. If you call they come faster. The hotel / resort is really nice has a casino, a very sweet gift shop, spa and indoor pool. I went to the spa for over 3 hours today, toes, nails and a facial. I am calm and happy, blissful. Best mental health day since Jan. After leaving the spa and having lunch in the coffee shop I won $5.
A winner is a winner
We have seen some awesome scenery. Oh what water does to the earth, very tall redwoods, water straining to jump over the holding concrete fences – all the water we saw, creeks - rivers and lakes were very full. Sprinklers were on all over the place. The expression “My cup runneth over” was talking about OR.
Lorin loves to shop at Costco and found one in Roseburg about 30 miles away, he took Dandy to a Doggie park -- while I went to the spa.
Tomorrow we plan to go to Crater Lake, about 2 ½ hours from here. We are told it is an awesome sight - not to be missed.
8/14
Crater Lake is more than awesome, mystical or wondrous. In all our travels we have never seen blue like the blue this lake is . It took my breath away to stand at the edge with lava chips all around and behold this lake. The color you see in the photos have not been retouched.. The color is what you see. The ride from Roseburg was dramatic, almost like big sur. Narrow road, creek running fast, As I looked down the cliff and saw the fast running water I am sure it is a 500 ft drop. At one point Lorin said “just keep saying oy” it helps. No problem there.
Place photo here
8/15
Today is clean up day. We leave the 17th. Getting ready to travel again. Down the coast to areas I have never seen. Looking forward to it all. When we get back to Morro Bay it will be a busy time, moving in- unpacking and choosing what we need to let go of. (Again).
W e are free to come and go as desired – true freedom. This is a very big country and much to explore –yea.
peace and good health to all, joy

Lorin and I and Cat went to Hoppes the other day (hummm gooood ) and being with her is such a wondrous event. For those of you who have not yet had body work from her please know we highly recommend her.
Also, friend Tobey is doing very intuitive readings. I recommend her to all to have a reading for insight and a sweet time.
Love and hugs to all, joy
Hi all,
We are on the central coast and the R&R is wonderful. Being with friends and a circle of women/sisters is so healing. I had lunch today with Mary who is my soul sister, she was my first real friend in Cambria, 1994. How wonderful. I am blessed with so many angels .
We are going to be here till the end of July. I am sure we will see a clear path in August.
Again thank you all for your love and healing prayers.

Bye Bye BU, we are off tomorrow, heading up the coast to SLO county. Malibu is of course wonderful and so are the managers of the RV park. Hugs and a small token from us , telling us to come back and of course we will.
We have been here for 3 months and now we are good to go. If you have to go though this kind of time, i don't know how it could be better. Every Dr. and nurse and staff person was wonderful. There were hugs (light hugs) and would you believe tears in the good bye?
We learned a lot while here and i am sure more "will be revealed " .
While being here we were able to choose to up date the RV (not a surprise)-- in the near future (I hope). New sofa bed, get rid of the carpet to match the kitchen floor.
Son Andy came here today to hug us goodbye -- as we were sitting out looking at the ocean, Andy looked back to me and said "I can't believe you are doing this RV thing" and we laughed. He then agreed the timing was perfect and trip here very good. We did re-connect this trip - nice.
Again, thank you all for the support and love. Overwhelming and loving. I love you all, joy
Well, tomorrow we leave Malibu and head back to SLO county. We leave behind a RV park that has been home for nearly three months, and our neighbor down the road, Cher (I forgot to get a picture of the house), and our neighbor in the park, Gene Simmons---or at least one of his team. As the photo here shows.
And that is that for the BU.
Adios and love to all. Lorin

Yesterday we had a great time with loved ones who i have known (literally) all my life. The ties to family, history and love go very deep. I am so grateful for these connections and to the family members who consider us part of their clan. There is laughter and tears, much discussion of current events, both serious and funny along with many hugs and eye contact with love. We had Dandy with us; he is such a sweetie. In fact while i have a surgery day Wens. Dandy is going to Jon & Amy's home to hang out with Jon and son Jack and lovely Dodger (their dog). I worry about "dogie day care" or having Dandy in the car in a parking lot. It is a relief to know he will be in a loving home and life is good.
Jon's sister Karen was with her son and Husband. I got to know her husband Brian a bit better - he told me about a conversation with my Dad years ago about the CCC. My father came to CA during the depression and Brian was able to tell me word by word about that talk.
The two family connections started before i was born (oh so long ago) in Toledo. My parents and the other couple, Gert and Joe Bort became great friends in the 30's. They lived in an apt. across the hall from each other and all would play cards in the hall with the two doors open to hear both babies (so the story goes). There is a story about Linda (Gert's sister, who babysat me when she was age 7 i was about 1, she remembers it.
I shared a play pen with Steve Bort who is 6 months younger than i am. There were shared vacations in a cabin at a MI lake till Steve and I got to puberty. We still shared vacation time but not the same cabin. I loved riding in their car to the lake 'cause Uncle Joe would get us all singing --.
Over the years there was much laughter and teasing between the two families. Steve had a train set that went from one room to another and i loved watching it. We climbed trees, played games and shared experiences.
Steve's younger sister Ellen was there yesterday with husband Alex. Ellen and my sister Elaine were great friends. Ellen came to Denver to be with Elaine just before Elaine passed over. I was privileged to watch the dynamics between them.
I talked with Steve yesterday when he called his Aunt Linda who is the Mom of Jon. it was Jon's home yesterday where all gathered.
Confused ?
Pay attn: there is a quiz in the morning.

There are an infinite number of possibilities for how the week ahead can unfold. To say, "May God's Will Be Done," is to say, "May the Highest Unfoldment of Loving Thought and Peaceful Purposes Be Done in Me and In All Living Things."

It's late, so this will be brief. But I want to get this down before I forget it. So, okay, traffic hour no longer exists and "travel time" is in. And there is a volume of traffic that is greater than that in Cambria, for sure, or Morro Bay, or even San Luis Obispo. Granted. To be expected. And getting around is different, too, which is why we have this great GPS tool we've christened Athena. Well, even Athena took note of the travel time yesterday coming home from a long day at UCLA with traffic backed up on PCH heading to Malibu at about 3 miles an hour. Suddenly the message popped up on Athena's screen "Switch to pedestrian mode?" That about says it.

I meant to post the photo below several days ago. It's another one of those signs that I come across from time to time. Joy reminded me that it should go on the blog, so here it is:
The other thing I've been doing a lot of lately, in between the visits to UCLA and the marvelous people working with Joy, has been taking pictures of flowers. Right here in the Malibu Beach RV Park there is a magnificent stand of cactus, well, several. And they are in bloom. Lots of different colors, mainly reds and yellows. Here's one sample below; I'll put others up on my web site www.cambriacreations.com
And to our surprise, it is raining! I was thinking as it started really pouring, you know, at least our electric won't go out. That's when the cable TV went. What's the company? One guess. CHARTER.
Over and out for now.

COLOR ME YELLOW
Hi All,
UCLA is amazing. yesterday i had an apt. with Dr. Lee, radiation oncology. He does 6-7 weeks on one breast -- which would have had us here for 3 more months and i knew that was not going to happen. Because the cancer was caught so early he told me of another treatment. Brachytherapy done by Dr. Jeffery Demanes. I am sending a link to his information if you feel like looking up him and this method. Lorin and I met with him yesterday and were impressed with what he had to tell us. The treatment lasts a week and i will be done with this challenge. If i walked away and just been tested every other month there was a 20 % chance the cancer could come back. With this treatment there is a 4% chance.
UCLA is so integrated -- all of my Dr.s get updates whenever there is a visit or change or apt. or tests -- on and on.
We are also seeing (later in the month) Dr. Mary Hardy, who will be teaching us what to expect from the treatments and how to deal with life after cancer. She will educate us on nutrition, life style, etc. There is a 8 page questionnaire to fill out, med history-life style-spiritual background and one that i will be busted for--- exercise.
She is a Integrative Oncology Dr. In fact all my Dr.s are oncology Dr.s
We have not experienced ego stuff - all the Dr.s and workers in the Dept's we have been in are a team for the patient, they confer-email-and choose the best way to go. Dr. Chang has sent me to wonderful Dr.s and i feel i am in the best hands.
So given what i was first told in SLO and that breast cancer can be a killer i am again blessed with what i have. Thank you all for holding me in healing light and love. I am happy you will keep it up. I have felt well taken care of from the beginning.
love Joy

Getting lazy and have not kept up with so much more important things going on, which Joy has kept you posted on. So I thought I'd note a couple of side things. Like when we went for a visit to Cambria, so much needed!, and I walked with Dandy in the old neighborhood. He spotted a concrete pig (no kidding) and had to investigate:
The other day, back in Malibu, we decided to wander down to Venice beach, an area we've always loved. It was a Tuesday morning, so the normal crowds weren't there, but it was fun anyway. You know how I love signs. The picture below gives you a sample, two star signs in one. In case you can't quite make them out: "Evaluation Center Medical Marijuana," and "Botox on the Beach"
And then there is the sadder side, the homeless. You can't read the sign that this man is wearing, but it reads "Venice, Don't Dump On The Homeless." Written right on the toilet seat lid. A sorry comment on our society today.
And that's it for now. It's warm and windy on the coast. Thanks for all the good words and thoughts for Joy; they help.

Lorin April 23
We're back in Malibu after a short time in Cambria visiting with our wonderful circles of good friends, feeling grateful that we could be with so many of them and blessed to know such fine folks. A short visit, and a good one.
Now we're back in Malibu, the land of normalcy...."normalcy," a word coined by Warren Harding....Oh, here's a glimpse of normalcy Malibu style:
On a different note, the numbers of pelicans flying over has been incredible. Even tonight. Walking Dandy just a bit ago, I snapped this:

Joy April 14
Hi all,
As you may know i got a call from Dr. yesterday and i am in the clear. I go to her on the 26th for post check up. I know there will be no Chemo and i am working in my fiendish mind on a plan to get out of radiation--ha, lots of luck. She is a very little woman who packs a big authority stick. I will do it her way.
We have been watching whales and pelicans and enjoying the day. temp here ,72 or so.. clear tho there is wind and the sea is choppy.
I am in a strange kind of head place. I have known all along i was healthy and this would be more about a life affirming process -- never thought i was in danger, really. If i was in a state of denial of "reality" so be it. I would much rather spend my days enjoying life then worrying about death.
There have been exquisite writings coming in from all of you and i am so grateful for them. thank you

April 8 Lorin
Joy's doing well, has to recover for about two weeks and we will see. She says hello to everyone.
Meanwhile, although the temperature has dropped we've had a lovely day. Gorgeous clouds and fleets of pelicans.
And, finally, here's a picture that gives you an idea of how we're perched in Malibu---above Pacific Coast Highway. We're actually looking more South than West.
And that's it for today.

Lorin April 7
Joy's procedure went well this morning and she is resting now, deeply, with our trusty therapy dog Dandy at her side. By next Tuesday we should have a better idea of the timing of the rest of her treatment. In the meantime, thanks for all the thoughts and prayers and emails. And remember, gratitude is an attitude---among other things.

Joy April 2
Hi all,
April 2d and showers came to Malibu, tomorrow too i am told. We went from pretty hot to cool. Lorin leaves for Vegas and accountant tomorrow back Tues.
We are on hold till the 7th when i get to have another surgery/biopsy. If all goes well there will be a recovery time followed by 6 weeks of radiation. I have been telling a joke no one is laughing at. "I knew i needed radiation but i didn't think it would be coming from Japan." -- No one even smiles. Maybe it is my delivery???
I bought a bamboo plant today -- you know the "good luck" plant. it is pretty in it's own right and who am I to say it won't work?
I look forward to my dear friend's visit on Monday, going to look up places here to meet for lunch.
The three of us seem to be fine in this space, Lorin put up the awning today so we will have shade all the time -- nice to sit out and watch the water, people, pets (there is a cat on leash) children's toys. Dandy is loved by all. He had a bath the other day and the owner was raving about his being so mellow.
So all is as it should be, love to all, joy

March 31 Dandy
They don't know I can type. I've waited till...ooops, almost caught. Anyway, they don't know I can manipulate these keys with my paws. Ah, but I can. It is not easy, and I have to do it when they are away or sleeping. Even then it is tricky. In any case, enough about me. I have been with my people now for well over many months. I have not yet mastered their calendar or clocks and I can see they measure in different ways than I do....Off the topic again. Ooops, must stop for a moment. Okay. They are nice to me and they call me a therapy dog now and although I am much more than that, I am content to let them label me in that way if that pleases them. And I can see that it does. It is a bit confusing to move around so much. I like the walks tho and this new place is nice. There are little lizards that I could catch. If my people would let me. Ooooops. Must end.

March 29 Lorin
Driving from Los Angeles to Malibu, especially after leaving the accident behind, was like entering a new world. The pictures of the new location really say it all and reflect the gratitude I feel and that I know Joy feels for reaching this place of quiet and healing. Nice as it was to have the beach right there, the planes were right there too. The energy here is quite different. Places to sit and stare at the Pacific. Space to be. Reflect. Be thankful.

We left L A today and brought the RV to Malibu -- WOWOWOW. Peaceful, soft, beautiful, nice people, hot showers, store, and cable TV. Palm trees, flowers, gentle breeze - Dandy is happy Lorin is happy and i am so damn relieved and happy. YEA
This park like so many has a restriction on how many days a RV is allowed to be parked here. We had a leave date of April 28th. The minute we parked and smelled and saw the ocean --I said, "this is my healing place". Lorin said, God yes.
I went down to the office and spoke with the manager Dawn. As soon as i said i was in treatment at UCLA she reached across the counter and took my hand and said, you can stay here as long as you want. Many people come here to heal! Of course instant tears and then she had them. She also said - Please let me know if there is anything at all you need. I told her she just did it. We are here till Dr. releases me. BIG sigh. It is amazing how different this is from where we were. thank you for all of it, my Spirit guides, friends prayers, good wishes, angels, HP, healing energy, what ever was working to allow us to be here. What a blessing. I have included our mailing address .

March 28 Lorin
Tomorrow we move about 22 miles North to an RV park in Malibu, and we've sworn not to mention a certain friend's name in that town. (She knows who she is, and so would the Malibuians if we divulged it.) But the reason for the post today is mainly to insert a picture of Dandy that should have been placed at the outset, one taken in January when he had a chance to run free on the beach not far from San Simeon point. So here it is, Dandy running at full speed:
And that's it for now.
