We'd expected to travel for a year. A medical diagnosis changed the direction of the trip and we're taking in one day at a time, with up to two months near UCLA's incredible breast cancer center.

Joy August 15
Hi all,
Well July flew by. We stayed on my friends property in Morro Bay almost all month. She has a full Rv hook up and we were really blessed to be there.
Before we left Morro Bay for Chico and OR we found a sweet apt. for rent and it is ours at the end of the month. The location is Morro Bay and we are looking forward to being there. We can walk to the theater and shops and downtown which are all within 3-4 blocks. Perfect.
Both of us missed a home base and our “stuff” in storage is calling to us too.
With that in mind we each made a list of 10 items we would like to have in a home. Morro Bay was the first for us, having a patio and one story. Within a week we were committed to our new home.
Will be great to get stuff out of storage and into our home. I am sure there will be a ton of wonderful things to sell off since this place is about ½ the size of our last home. Downsizing is downsizing.
Our trip to Chico was interesting, we were able to spend a evening there with friends Duchess and Don on Fri. night.
We wanted to surprise Duchess who didn’t know we were coming in. Hubby Don and Lorin made all the plans. We were seated at a wonderful restaurant as planned and D&D came in 15 minutes later. I had on sun glasses and held my menu to my face. Lorin shared the menu with me.
As soon as Duchess walked in she spotted us – and started to get very emotional... in fact we both ended up crying and laughing in-between courses. So glad to reconnect with loved ones.
I was surprised how fast she spotted us... she had us pose for a photo showing what she saw when she came in—
Laughed a lot over this.
Getting ready on Sat. to drive to OR the rv gears froze. We are members of a roadside club, they had a tow truck to us in less than an hour. We were near a car rental, on Sat, in Chico with less than an hour before closing. Don gave me a ride to the rental and when I got back to the RV
the tow truck arrived at the same time. Timing
Our fear was the transmission needed replacing but no, it was a minor problem.
Meanwhile we spent two nights with Dandy in a motel near downtown Chico. Chico reminds us of the mid-west, green with lots of water, houses are mid-west in style. My mind kept flipping back and forth to Ohio.
Chico is a University town with a lot of energy.. We enjoyed walking to town an REstopped in a book store, talked with the owner who loves Chico. Nice
Lorin talked with the repair place and asked if we had a problem, there was a funky smell in the frig., repair mad said it smelled like cod fish so even tho we didn’t have cod – we threw all the food away :{ and washed the inside with bleach and baking soda and baking soda again. We put dishes of baking soda in the frig. All of the above helped get rid of the smell which we think came from shell fish juice dropping on the grills and shelves. Arg.
We finally made it to7 feathers rv park, Canyonville OR. A great place to park and have fun.
In fact it is tied in a poll with another one for first place in our country.
This park is very special. Other parks we have gone to have common rooms for showers – you get a curtain for privacy but really not enough room to do all you want to do... dry hair, shoes or garment changing etc. I found it easier to shower in the rv as tight as it is. This park has private rooms with sink, shower and toilet, I swear when one person walks out the crew cleans up after them befpre the the room is used again..
We and everyone else are parked on a large pad which is mostly level. Trees, grass and many flowers.
The park is quiet and clean - very happy employees . They should be happy, they are all on salary with pension plans and health ins. (Reminds me of a land far, far away). They are well trained friendly and will answer any questions .
There is a playground for kids, a indoor pool and hot tub with a rec. room.
Yesterday we went to the coastal village of Winchester, a working port. They are fishing for salmon, crabs and clams. ‘While there is quite a lot of fishing boats the small businesses were having a struggle.. So many out of business. This is a milling area and the lack of building in the country has taken its toll.

A hotel shuttle comes around every 15-20 minutes to take you there and then back to your pad. If you call they come faster. The hotel / resort is really nice has a casino, a very sweet gift shop, spa and indoor pool. I went to the spa for over 3 hours today, toes, nails and a facial. I am calm and happy, blissful. Best mental health day since Jan. After leaving the spa and having lunch in the coffee shop I won $5.
A winner is a winner
We have seen some awesome scenery. Oh what water does to the earth, very tall redwoods, water straining to jump over the holding concrete fences – all the water we saw, creeks - rivers and lakes were very full. Sprinklers were on all over the place. The expression “My cup runneth over” was talking about OR.
Lorin loves to shop at Costco and found one in Roseburg about 30 miles away, he took Dandy to a Doggie park -- while I went to the spa.
Tomorrow we plan to go to Crater Lake, about 2 ½ hours from here. We are told it is an awesome sight - not to be missed.

Crater Lake is more than awesome, mystical or wondrous. In all our travels we have never seen blue like the blue this lake is . It took my breath away to stand at the edge with lava chips all around and behold this lake. The color you see in the photos have not been retouched.. The color is what you see. The ride from Roseburg was dramatic, almost like big sur. Narrow road, creek running fast, As I looked down the cliff and saw the fast running water I am sure it is a 500 ft drop. At one point Lorin said “just keep saying oy” it helps. No problem there.

Today is clean up day. We leave the 17th. Getting ready to travel again. Down the coast to areas I have never seen. Looking forward to it all. When we get back to Morro Bay it will be a busy time, moving in- unpacking and choosing what we need to let go of. (Again).
W e are free to come and go as desired – true freedom. This is a very big country and much to explore –yea.
peace and good health to all, joy
